Dell Pro Rugged 14 (RB14250):

Laptop Hire has been a core part of our business for many years, we’ve grown our gaming and portable workstation fleet, and due to repeat enquiries, we are now offering rugged laptops.

This laptop hire model from Dell has been drop -tested, and is IP 53 rated. Thus it’s suitable for:

• Remote shoots / On-location film & TV production
  When you’re out in the field (forests, mountaintops, deserts, or coastal areas), you need a laptop that tolerates temperature extremes, knocks, and unreliable power. The RB14250 handles those: its build resists drops and vibration; optional brightness and display options let you monitor footage in daylight; the variety of ports helps plugging into camera control, data offload, monitor, external SSDs etc.
• Survey / Construction / Engineering fieldwork
  Sites are dusty, rough, and often lack power or clean conditions. The semi-rugged chassis, protective port covers, and IP-53 rating mean fewer failures. The presence of serial port and rugged connectivity helps with legacy survey instruments, GPS, drone controllers.
• Expeditions / Adventure / Scientific Research
  Expeditions (polar, jungle, desert) need gear that operates in cold, heat, humidity. Also GPS / mobile broadband support is useful. With WWAN, rugged battery performance, and robust chassis, this model is suitable for multi-day fieldwork far from power.
• Government / Security / Confidential Training
  Secure hardware, strong durability, optional features (smart-card, fingerprint, etc.) give better assurance of integrity and data protection. It’s less likely to fail or be compromised due to environmental attack (weather, vibration, etc.).

  When speed, mobility, and reliability matter. The laptop can be carried, survive drops, connect to cellular / satellite links, run mapping / video / telemetry software under rough conditions.

The spec is not super-high/powerful compared to some of our workstations, but overall, the Dell Pro Rugged 14 RB14250 is an excellent candidate for rental in any situation demanding robustness, mobility, and decent performance: especially remote shoots, field survey, expeditions, and government or emergency uses.

Notes:

• Drop tested from 3 feet (waist height).
• IP53 actually means in detail:
  • 5 (Dust protected)
    • Dust is not completely prevented from entering, but it cannot enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the safe operation of the equipment.
    • In practice: the device is reasonably resistant to dusty environments (e.g. construction sites, deserts), but not hermetically sealed like IP6X devices.

• • 3 (Water spray protected):
    • Protected against water sprayed at up to 60° from vertical. Water falling as a spray at an angle up to 60° from above should have no harmful effect.
    • Tested with oscillating tubes or nozzles, spraying 10 L/min for at least 5 minutes.
    • In practice: resists light rain or sprayed water, but not immersion, jets, or heavy downpours.
• In short, IP53 = “dust protected and splash resistant”, not fully dustproof or waterproof. It makes the Dell Pro Rugged 14 fine for field rentals in moderately harsh conditions, but not extreme weather or underwater usage.
